Renal Calculi can be caused by diet, such as a lot of tea and icecream for example. The stones are mostly calcium. A procedure called lithotripsy can be done, it uses sound waves to break up kidney stones and makes them easier to pass.

simple blood tests will show the reason
there are many, including over production of the amino acid cystine, which can cause cystenuria, one of the effects is kidney stones form, this particular cause is incurable but easily treatable
    my daughter has this
it is important he get checked out as stones cause scarring not only in the kidney but urinary tract etc
they are unpleasant and he needs to find the reason to get treated
    good luck

hi i am a medical doctor, the frequent passage of kidney stone is mostly a genetic reasons , but sometime it is because of excessive calcium intake, sometime excessive uric acid( gout), and sometime infections too. most of the time there is no permanent cure only you can prevent these by taking excessive water and liquids so that you pass urine more and more times and there is no chance of precipitation of small molecule to make it a big stone
