I’m only 16 and I’ve been having trouble with kidney stones. I was hospitalized twice in the last month for them, this last time (yesterday) I was in the worst pain I have ever experienced. I have two kidney stones which I have not passed, and I only had one the first time I was hospitalized.

I want to start a new diet that will help prevent kidney stones, but everything I have read about what to eat & what not to eat is contradictory. So, what SHOULD I eat and what SHOULDN’T I eat?

well im not quite sure about eating, but i do know that drinking a lot of water is key to preventing them from forming in the first place, so increasing water intake and lowering your sugary drinks intake will help. wish i could help more…

Kidney beans. No joke. Kidney beans are actually extremely healthy for your kidneys. Probably the best food that you can eat to help your kidneys.

    - grapefruit juice is awesome for kidneys and stones. Acid will “eat” stones. Drink citrus juice every day

    - watermellon – it will flush and wash your kidneys (you have to eat a lot of it, like at least a quarter or half of a watermelon or as much as you can in one meal) – once a week is good

    - avoid extra salty and extra greasy foods

I drank lemonade because I was told by a Dr. that the acid in the lemonade can break down the kidney stones and help get them out easier. It helped me, but you have to drink lots of it. Good Luck!
